Big news for optical retailers and eyewear brands using WooCommerce. We’re building a dedicated plugin that will make selling prescription glasses online dramatically simpler and more powerful.
After months of research and feedback from optical professionals, we’re bringing the same precision and automation that power Optogrid into the WooCommerce ecosystem.
WooCommerce is a free, powerful plugin that turns any WordPress website into a complete online store. It allows you to sell products, manage payments, inventory, and shipping, all from one place. It’s especially popular among small businesses because it’s flexible, easy to set up, and doesn’t require advanced technical skills. In short, if you already have (or plan to create) a WordPress site for your optical business, WooCommerce is the simplest way to start selling your products online.
Phase 1: Launching the Optical Commerce Plugin
The first release will make it easy to create a full optical e-commerce flow inside WooCommerce.
Store owners will be able to:
- Add frames as products with optional lens add-ons
- Include coatings, prescriptions, and customization options
- Display dynamic pricing that reflects each configuration
- Track optical-specific order stages (e.g., pending prescription, in lab, ready to ship)
In other words, WooCommerce store owners will soon have everything they need to turn a regular shop into a professional optical storefront; no coding required.
Phase 2: Integrating With Optogrid for Remote PD Measurement
In the second phase, we’ll integrate directly with Optogrid, allowing merchants to collect precise Pupillary Distance (PD) and Segment Height (SH) measurements remotely from customers.
This will close the loop between the online ordering process and the manufacturing workflow — enabling true end-to-end optical commerce.
💡 Why WooCommerce (Not Shopify)?
We initially started developing a Shopify app, but ran into multiple technical and policy limitations that slowed down progress.
While Shopify integration is still part of our roadmap, the WooCommerce plugin will likely launch first, offering a faster path to real-world use and feedback.
💰 Pricing & Availability
Pricing is TBD, but the goal is to make it accessible for small and mid-size optical businesses.
We’re targeting an initial release in December 2025, with early beta access available before then.
If you run an optical store on WooCommerce (or want to) and want early access or to share feedback, join our early tester list. We’d love to hear from you.
